We implemented this with a camera-based system. The camera
clicked pictures of the parking lot every 5-10 seconds and upload it wireless
to our control system. Our image processing code in the control system detected
the presence of cars and updated the database. As soon as a new car enters the
parking lot, our induction loop sensor will detect it and signal the database
to allot it the closest vacant parking spot. We installed LED consoles on the
ceiling which flash according to the speed of the car and lead the car to its
allocated parking space. The camera based system will be able to automatically
adjust any glitches if someone did not park where he was supposed.
